River Mole The River Mole is one of the two major rivers within Surrey, running the whole width of the county from south to north. The Mole rises in Baldhorns Copse near Rusper, just over the border in Sussex, south of Gatwick Airport, and the nascent brook flows northwest into Surrey, skirting the airport and through the county from south to north for the rest of its course of fifty miles to the Thames at East Molesey.
