PeterboroughPeterborough is a cathedral city in Northamptonshire. The city stands on the banks of the River Nene, which enters the North Sea some 30 miles to the north-east. Peterborough is the heart of the Soke of Peterborough, the north-easternmost part of Northamptonshire. Peterborough is a New Town and its old town centre has been greatly redeveloped and is surrounded but a great number of twentieth century residential neighbourhoods, many entirely replacing older villages whose names they have adopted and which have spread south across the River Nene into Huntingdonshire.
