Lough KeyLough Key is a lake in the north-west of County Roscommon, northeast of Boyle. The name 'Lough Key' is from the Irish Loch Cé. Mythology has it that Cé was the druid of the god Nuada, and that Cé fled wounded from the Second Battle of Mag Tuired, until he came to Curlew Mountains, where he rested. He saw ahead of him a beautiful plain full of flowers, but died when he reached it. A lake burst out of his grave and flooded the whole plain to become today's lough. (Read more) |
