The House of Dun, Angus

House of Dun

House of Dun is a grand country house in Angus, which was for centuries the seat of the Erskine and Kennedy-Erskine family. Today though it is owned by the National Trust for Scotland.

The house is found to the west of Montrose. Its grounds run down to the shore of the Montrose Basin, a broad tidal basin and nature reserve also owned by the Trust.

The Erskine Family owned the estate from 1375 until 1980, but the house is Georgian, designed by William Adam and finished in 1730. The elaborate plasterwork in some of the rooms is a rare treasure. (Read more)
