The Royal Observatory at Greenwich in Kent

Greenwich Greenwich is a town in Kent on the River Thames, famous for seafaring and its naval tradition. The world over the name of Greenwich is known the Greenwich Meridian (0° longitude) drawn form the Royal Observatory here, and from it Greenwich Mean Time. The site of a royal palace here, birthplace of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I was rebuilt by Wren as the Royal Naval Hospital, which became the Royal Naval College in 1873. These magnificent buildings stretch from the riverside back towards the park, by the town centre. Above the thriving shops and covered market and the college, Greenwich Park spreads up the hill, a popular place of resort and also the location of Royal Greenwich Observatory and National Maritime Museum.
