FoulnessFoulness is an island on the east coast of Essex which is separated from the mainland by no more than narrow creeks. It is predominantly farmland and is protected from the sea by a sea wall. The island is an important military area, owned by the Ministry of Defence and used for the testing of munitions. Its resident population is only about 200, living in the hamlets of Churchend and Courtsend at the north end of the island. (Read more) |
