Fortuna GlacierThe Fortuna Glacier is a tidewater glacier at the mouth of Cumberland Bay on the east coast of South Georgia. It creeps in a north-east direction to its terminus just west of Cape Best, with an eastern distributary almost reaching the west side of Fortuna Bay, on the north coast of South Georgia. This is the largest glacier on the island. Shackleton used the glacier as a path across the island to rescue in 1912, and the SAS crossed it to liberate the South Georgia in 1982. (Read more) |
