Coventry

Coventry is a city in the middle of Warwickshire. It is reckoned the 11th largest city in the United Kingdom and in the county second only to Birmingham 19 miles to the west.

Coventry has always been an industrial city: in the 14th century it was cloth, in the 18th watch and clock manufacture and in the 19th century, Coventry built bicycles then in the 20th cars: Coventry was a major centre of the British motor industry, some of which remains.

Industrial might brought calamity too as the city was targeted by the Luftwaffe during the war: the shattered remains of its old cathedral serve as a memorial to conflict. (Read more)
