Cookstown

Cookstown is a town in Tyrone; the fourth largest town in the county. The town was founded around 1620 by Dr Alan Cooke, and it became one of the main centres of the linen industry west of the River Bann.

Cookstown's main street, laid out from around 1735 to 1800, is a mile and a quarter long and 135 feet wide; one of the longest, and widest in the British Isles. (Read more)
