Chester city walls

Chester city walls surround the historic heart of the city of Chester, the county town of Cheshire. They are the most complete set of mediæval town walls in the British Isles.

The first walls about the city were Roman. The current walls incorporate much of the Roman work but are themselves mediæval. The circuit of the whole city was probably complete by the middle of the twelfth century. (Read more)
