Blasket IslandsThe Blasket Islands are a group of six uninhabited islands in the Atlantic Ocean off the west coast of Ireland, forming part of County Kerry. The name of the islands is of uncertain origin: it might be from the Old Norse word brasker meaning "a dangerous place". The islands were inhabited, and Irish-speaking, untl 1953, when the whole population was evacuated as an unsustainable community. (Read more) |
