Auckland Castle

Auckland Castle stands in Bishop Auckland in County Durham. It has been a palace of the Bishops of Durham for eight hundred years. Today the castle is owned by a trust for the Church of England for the service of the Diocese of Durham.

Auckland Castle was originally established as a hunting lodge. It was the principal seat of the Bishops of Durham from 1832, and was transferred in 2012 to the Auckland Castle Trust, a charitable foundation which displays permanent exhibitions on the history of Christianity in Durham and Northumberland (Read more)
