Summer Hill is in the Malvern Hills, the eight-mile ridge between Herefordshire and Worcestershire. Summer Hill is in the northern part of the hills, by which the county border is further west, encompassing Summer Hill and its neighbours all in Worcestershire.
The hill lies to the south of the Worcestershire Beacon, which is Worcestershire's (and the Malvern Hills') highest hill, and Summer Hill's summit, though often overlooked given the grandeur of its neighbour, is a most respectable 1,253 feet above sea level.
To the south, the slope falls to the gap in the hills at Upper Wyche and Lower Wyche, and the line of the county boundary returns to the Malvern Ridge so that Summer Hill is the large of the hills on the ridge which Worcestershire has all to itself. There has been quarrying on both the eastern and western slopes of the hill.
The coincidentally named Midsummer Hill lies some miles to the south on the Malverns' ridge.
