Steeple Peaks
Steeple Peaks are a line of five distinct peaks running north-north-east to south-south-west from the northernmost of them, Mount Ward, on the western edge of Palmer Land in the British Antarctic Territory towards the frozen shore of George VI Sound. The southernmost peak is Sandau Nunatak. Just beyond is a small headland on the sound, Steeple Head.
These peaks are found close to the shore, rising to about 2,600 feet, between Conchie Glacier to the north, which separates this little group from the Batterbee Mountains, and Goodenough Glacier.
The area was so named because of a number of steeple-like features visible among the peaks. The hills were surveyed by the British Antarctic Survey from "Stonington Island" and "Fossil Bluff" in 1962-1972.
