Shotley is a parish in the very south of Northumberland, in the county's Tindale Ward. It is on the River Derwent, which here marks the border of Northumberland with County Durham, and the river is bridged here, to Shotley Bridge in the latter county.
The parish is rural, with no village now bearing the name of 'Shotley', but it has hamlets of the name: Shotley Hall at the bridge head, Shotleyfield a mile and a half to the west, both along the Shotleyfield Burn, which enters the Derwent by the bridge. Other hamlets of the parish include Snods Edge, North Snods and South Snods.
