Shipton is a small village in Shropshire. It figures prominently in the history of the family of Samuel More, one of the Pilgrim Fathers who sailed with the Mayflower.
The manor house, Shipton Hall, was built around 1587 for Richard Lutwyche to replace an older timber framed house. He later granted the estate as a dowry when his daughter married Thomas Mytton.
The parish church is the Church of St James. It is of 12th century origin, with tower added later in the Middle Ages. The chancel was rebuilt, and a porch added, in 1589. The church is a Grade II* listed building.[1]
