Shieldaig Island is an uninhabited island in the belly of Loch Shieldaig, an inlet on the south side of Loch Torridon on the rough west coast of Ross-shire opposite Shieldaig, a hamlet on the loch shore.
Shieldaig Island was purchased by the National Trust for Scotland in 1970 and is maintained as reserve. The island is almost entirely covered in Scots pine, thought to have been planted over 100 years ago to provide poles for drying the nets of local fishermen. The island is still a haven for wildlife as herons use the trees for nesting platforms, and seals haul themselves out of the water onto the rocky foreshore.
