Sheffield Bottom is a hamlet in Berkshire just south of Theale. It is a place constrained from any notion of growth by its position almost entirely surrounded by water, in the shape of the lakes beside the Kennet and Avon Canal, known as the Theale Lakes. Three minor roads enter Sheffield Bottom and meet at a roundabout in the centre, and the space between them are three lakes.
The lane north towards Theale crosses the Kennet and Avon Canal on a bridge which swings open to allow the passage of boats; the Sheffield Bottom Swing Bridge.
