SaxaVord Spaceport, previously known as Shetland Space Centre,[1] is a planned spaceport to be located on the Lamba Ness, a peninsula of Unst, the most northerly of the Shetland Islands. The proposed site is near the RAF Saxa Vord radar station and the settlement of Skaw, adjacent to the Saxa Vord distillery.

SaxVord is an enterprise founded by Frank and Debbie Strang, bought the site on Unst about in the 2000s with a view to creating an eco-tourism attraction, but the national search for domestic satellite launch facilities transformed this into a project to create a spaceport.[2]

The first launch from the spaceport is expected in 2024, with suborbital launches by HyImpusle, and launched by Lockheed Martin.[2] Other companies which have expressed interest in the facility include Edinburgh-based Skyrora.
