Information

Rough Fort is an Iron Age ring fort or 'rath' in County Londonderry, and which is in the care of the National Trust.

Rough Fort is to be found by road from Limavady to Ballykelly. It has been dated as 1000 years old and consists of a ring-shaped defensive earthwork typical of the raths of Ulster. It would originally have been a defended farmstead, the ramparts providing a secure perimeter into which cattle could be herded and a defence mounted against raiders or armed bands.

The location is along the 'Causeway Coastal Route'.
