River Coupall
The River Coupall is a Highland river, in Argyll, just five miles long and which becomes a tributary of the River Etive.
The Coupall rises close to the summit of a mountain pass known as the Lairig Gartrain, cut straight through the mountains at the foot of Buachaille Etive Mòr. (Just a few yards from the source on the other side of the summit a stream called the Allt Gartrain begins and runs in the opposite direction down the pass to reach the Etive by a much shorter path.)
Following a single-minded direction, and gathering numerous burns off the hills as it goes, the Coupall flows north-east, with the long ridge of Buachaille Etive Mòr to the south. Due north of the mountain's summit, by the Old Military Road, the river turns sharply to a south-easterly course down a short, broader glen through which the Old Military Road and its successor the A82 make their way through the mountains.
At the foot of the glen, the river meets the River Etive, which flows in a south-westerly course on the south side of Buachaille Etive Mòr and the north of Creise.
