Rescue Rock lies to the north-east of Skua Island, in the Bay of Isles, on the north coast of South Georgia.
The rock was charted by Discovery Investigations in 1930 and named after an incident in December 1929: a survey motor boat for Discovery Investigations , the Alert was driven ashore at Camp Bay, and later rescued by the whale catcher Southern Shore. But for the rock, the ship would have passed further out to sea and would not have seen the Discovery Investigations party's distress signal.
