Racton is a hamlet in the very west of Sussex, found by the B2147 road two miles north-east of Emsworth and within the civil parish of Stoughton. The hamlet stands beside the River Ems. Half a mile to the north is the Racton Monument, built between 1766 and 1775 by the 2nd Earl of Halifax.[1] Another prominent structure just outside the hamlet is Lordington Manor, former home of the Pole family.
St Peter's Church, in the centre of the hamlet, dates from the 12th or 13th century, and is a Grade I listed building.[2]
