The 2011 census recorded a parish population of 245.

The most prominent building in Putley is the parish church.[1] There is also a parish hall[2]

Putley also possibly had a castle called Putley Castle.[3]

History

The name "Putley" means 'Putta's wood/clearing' or 'hawk wood/clearing'.[4]

Putley is recorded in the Domesday Book as Poteslepe.[5] Pulley is also recorded as a name for "Putley".[6]
