Petter Bay lies between Spence Harbour and Divide Peaks in the south-east of Coronation Island, amongst the South Orkney Islands in the British Antarctic Territory.

The bay was roughly charted by Powell and Palmer in December 1821. It was further charted by Petter Sørlle in 1912-13. It is found on charts named 'P. Sørlle's Bugt', the name probably chosen by Borge, or 'Petters Bay': Sørlle (1884-1933) was a Norwegian whaling captain who first visited the South Orkney Islands in 1911-12, and who in 1922 took out a patent for his whale slipway, first used in the Lancing in 1925. The bay was recharted by Discovery Investigations in 1933. The bay was surveyed by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey from Signy in 1956-58.
