Pachyptila Valley rises north-north-eastwards from Corral Bay, on the west shore of the Barff Peninsula, on the north coast of South Georgia.
The bay is named in association with the Desolata Lakes which lie at the top of the valley: the name of both valley and lakes is from the large Antarctic prion (Pachyptila desolata), as there is a colony present in the valley.
