Overton is a small village in southern Shropshire, to the west of the River Teme, a mile and a half south of the pretty town of Ludlow and close to the border with Herefordshire. The B4361 road runs through. To the south stands Richard's Castle.
In the Domesday Book, Overton is recorded as the manor of Avretone, which included Richard's Castle. This manor at the time was recorded as belonging to the hundred of Cutestornes,[1] a hundred of Herefordshire. Around the time of King Henry I (1100-1139) the hundreds of Shropshire were greatly reformed and the Munslow Hundred was created; this hundred took in Overton.
Businesses include Overton Grange Hotel and Overton Service Station (an independent car fuel and repair garage).
