Ommanney Bay
Ommanney Bay lies between Prong Point and Foul Point in the north of Coronation Island amongst the South Orkney Islands in the British Antarctic Territory.
The bay was probably sighted by Powell and Palmer in December 1821. It was charted by Discovery Investigations in 1933 and named after Dr Francis Downes Ommanney (1903-80), British zoologist and member of Discovery Investigations scientific staff at 'Marine Station' in Grytviken, South Georgia in 1929-30, and Discovery II in 1931-33 and 1935-37. The bay was surveyed by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey from Signy in 1956-58. The bay and the hinterland, south of a line joining Conception Point and Foul Point, were designated a Special Protection Area, 'SPA No. 18' under the Antarctic Treaty.
