On Ockham Common

Ockham Common is a wooded common in the midst of Surrey, to the north of Ockham, the village which gives the common its name.

The common stretches today from Hatchford Park westwards to the A3 Portsmouth Road. West of the A3 is Wisley Common. To the north, the M25 motorway cruelly scythes through what was once unbroken woodland here, stretching north towards Cobham. To its south is Wisley Airfield, now disused.

Bolder Mere is a broad, shallow lake on the common, fringed by woods (and close to the roar of the multiple carriageway A3 road).

The two neighbouring commons have together been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest by the name 'Ockham and Wisley Commons'.
