Newton Reigny is a village in Cumberland, near Penrith. The River Petteril flows through the village and here turns north towards Carlisle.
The name 'Newtown' is precisely as it seem: a "new village". It is recorded in 1185 that the manor was held by William de Reigni, hence the suffix to the name.[1]
