Newport is a tiny village in Gloucestershire, within the Parish of Alkington, on the Doverte Brook, a tributary of the Little Avon River. It has a pub ('The Stagecoach'), a closed motel ('The Newport Towers'), and a small non-conformist chapel, which itself closed in October 2006. The chapel is of interest for its Georgian interior with hat pegs and galleries and several broken harmoniums.

The village lies along the A38 road roughly halfway between Bristol and Gloucester, about a mile south-east of Berkeley and just north of Woodford.

The village once had many coaching inns, some catering for the post. The village's position on the road provided a convenient location for horse changes and rest-stops and was much frequentd by stagecoaches and mail coaches.
