Mullaghanish is a mountain of 2,129 feet in the Derrynasaggart Mountains on the Beara Peninsula, extending over the border of the Counties of Cork and Kerry, which border runs over the top of Mallaghanish, though leaving the summit point to Cork alone.

The mountain stands just north-east of Ballyvourney, County Cork. Its name, Mullach an Ois, means 'Mountain of the deer'.

Transmission site

This site is home to one of Telefís Éireann's original five main television transmitters. Coming on air in December 1962, initially on low power, it was in full operation by September 1963 with a 625-line VHF service for Counties Cork, Kerry and Limerick. Today it is owned and operated by 2RN, a subsidiary of Raidió Teilifís Éireann. In 2009 in preparation for the transmission of digital terrestrial television, a new mast was erected at Mullaghanish with a height of 738 feet, making it the tallest television transmitter in Ireland.

As well as digital television, six national FM radio services are broadcast from the site. The Mullaghanish transmitter has 20 relays; the highest number of relays of any television transmitter in Ireland reflecting the difficult topography of its service area.
