Mounthill is a small village in County Antrim, near Larne. The 2001 census recorded a population of just 69 people, though there has been some new development since then.
Mounthill Fair, which takes place in October each year, is predominantly a horse fair (with shire horses dominating). The fair is nearly 300 years old and is said to have begun with a charter from King James I.
Miscellany
Americans on the heritage trail have been known to visit as this is the ancestral home of Andrew Johnson, 17th President of the United States (who became President after Abraham Lincoln was shot dead). Johnson's grandfather left Mounthill around 1750 to settle in North Carolina.
