Data

Monkstown is a townland in County Antrim within the urban area of Newtownabbey. An earlier name for the townland appears to have been the Gaelic equivalent of its current name, Ballynamanagh, meaning "Town of the monks".[1][2][3] It is on the north shore Belfast Lough, and within the barony of Belfast Lower.

This was once a small village but with the new town development of Newtownabbey it has seen some major developments in both jobs and new housing estates. The Community school serves as both school and as community centre. Canadian-owned company, Nortel Networks, had a factory in Monkstown.
