Moneenroe is a village and townland in the north County Kilkenny, found along the N78 road about 13 miles from Kilkenny city. In 2016, Moneenroe's population was counted as 722.
The name of the village is from the Irish An Móinín Rua, meaning 'The little red bog'.[1]
Moneenroe is approximately three miles from Castlecomer and ten miles from Carlow town.
In the past many from Moneenroe worked at the coal mines at Deerpark Mines which closed in the 1960s.
