Lough Muckno, County Monaghan

Lough Muckno is the largest lake in County Monaghan and its most beautiful, with stunning views of the surrounding area. It is found on the west side of Castleblayney, and extends over 1,000 acres.

Within the lake are two wooded islands, Black Island and White Island, included amongst the forest trails of the shoreline, all with diverse wildlife. The lake itself is acclaimed for angling and water sports, including sailing and waterskiing take place on the lake.

Major works have been carried out in recent years to improve the angling facilities, with the result that Lough Muckno is now an angling venue of international standard.

The Concra Wood Golf and Country Club covers a broad peninsula in the midst of the lough.

Lough Muckno Leisure Park

Lough Muckno Leisure Park surrounds much of the lough shore. Covering 900 acres of woodland, including the two wooded islands, Black Island and White Island

The park provides such activities such as orienteering, nature walks/trails, water skiing and wakeboarding and coarse fishing. There is also a peace garden and picnic areas.

The park used as a venue for local events too, including the Muckno Mania Festival and an annual triathlon. The lough has hosted national and international waterskiing competitions, and several fishing competitions.
