Lough Barra is a freshwater lake in the north County Donegal in the valley along the Gweebarra fault. It is fed by a number of streams, principally by the Barra River entering at its northern end. The lake drains southwards into the Gweebarra River. This, like other lakes in this sparse area, is 'oligotrophic' giving it clean waters.
Lough Barra is about nineteen miles west of Letterkenny, just outside the south-west corner of the Glenveagh National Park. It measures about a mile long and a thousand yards wide.
