Llangyniew (also Llangynyw) is a hamlet and an ancient parish in Montgomeryshire. It is located on a hill inside a bend in the River Banwy, approximately two miles north-east of Llanfair Caereinion. As well as Llangyniew itself, the parish also includes the townships of Cynhinfa, Gwenyno Isaf and Mathrafal, the latter of which gives its name to the Mathrafel Hundred in which the parish lies.
The focus of the hamlet is the Church of St Cynyw.
The parish of Llangynyw had a population of 551 when the 1801 census was taken, and 539 by the 2001 census, including Pontrobert.
