Path across Lanton Moor, looking to the Eildon Hills

Lanton Moor is a moorland, partly wooded, in Roxburghshire, between Jedburgh and the little village of Lanton.

There are several earthworks on the moor and in its wood, of various ages. In the midst of the wood is a simple, oval earthwork of an unknown era and unknown purpose, believed not to be defensive.[1] Outside the bank to the west are three linear earthen banks, each surviving to about 3 feet 6 inches high: one 40 feet from the oval earthwork and 130 feet long, a second 45 feet beyond and 150 feet, and the third 70 feet long.

Further earthworks are found to the north (one surrounding a tower) and to the south-west, the latter identified as fort sites.
