Kings Worthy is a large village in the midst of Hampshire, two miles north of Winchester, to which it is almost connected. The village is on the River Itchen upstream of the city. It is the greatest of a cluster of neighbouring villages along the Itchen known as 'The Worthys', which are:

A sizeable village today, at the time of the when the Domesday Book, 1086, Kings Worthy was a tithing of Barton Stacey, the latter now a small village.

St Mary's church

The parish church, St Mary's, is in the old part of the village by the river, on London Road. It is of the late 12th century in origin, with a 15th century tower and windows. The church underwent a Victorian restoration in 1864, in which it was rebuilt and extended.

The plan of the church remains, with a medieval chancel, nave, south aisle and west tower. The chancel was though rebuilt in the restoration, and a polygonal vestry was added to the north and later the south chapel built. It is a Grade II* listed building.[1]

An additional chapel for the parish, St Mary's Chapel, is in the north of the village.
