Karlsen Rock

Karlsen Rock is a submerged rock in the Scotia Sea lying ten nautical miles north-northwest of Penguin Point, the northwesternmost point of Coronation Island in the South Orkney Islands. At 60.35° South it is the northernmost land of the British Antarctic Territory; just 35 nautical miles south of the territory's defined limit at 60° latitude.

The rock was charted and named as Karlsen Roks on a map by Petter Sørlle, a Norwegian whaler who made a running survey of the South Orkney Islands in 1912–13. It is possibly named after Axel Karlsen, a Norwegian whaling gunner. (Sørlle's chart of 1930 shows it as Karlsenboen.)
