Information |
The Governor Michael Gore Bird Sanctuary is found in the Spotts-Newlands area of Grand Cayman, the largest of the Cayman Islands, west of George Town. It is in the care of the National Trust for the Cayman Islands.
The reserve contains freshwater marshes which provide a habitat for roosting, feeding and breeding for several species of the island's freshwater birds, for which the salty lagoon reserves of the coastline are unsuitable.
The reserve is, unsurprisingly, named after a former Governor of the Cayman Islands, Michael J Gore, who served in post from 1992 to 1995.
