Gould Bay

Gould Bay is a bay in the north-east corner of Berkner Island, in the southern Weddell Sea and in the British Antarctic Territory. It indents the Filchner Ice Front, whose movement and calving controls the shape of the bay.

The bay was seen from the air by the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition of 1947–1948, under the leadership of Commander Finn Ronne, U.S. Navy Reserve, who named this bay 'Larry Gould Bay' after Dr Lawrence McKinley Gould, who served as Second-in-Command, Chief Scientist and geologist of the Byrd Antarctic Expedition of 1928–1930.

The bay was incorrectly given as the site of a British station to be opened in the International Geophysical Year.

The extent of the bay was delineated from USLANDSAT imagery of 1973 and 1978 and recorded by the British Antarctic Survey.
