Foxdale is a small village in the heart of the Isle of Man, within the sheading of Glenfaba. Its name is from the Norse Forsdal meaning "waterfall dale").
The village has a heritage centre which is run voluntarily.
There was once a station here on the Isle of Man Railway, serving the mines, but this branch is no longer open.
Foxdale mines
In the 19th century there were 13 mines and workings in the area of Foxdale, which included five mines working the Foxdale shear.[1] The mines yielded a rich output of zinc blende, lead ore and silver. In time the mines came under the ownership of the Isle of Man Mining Company who operated the mines until their closure in 1911.
