Folksworth is a small village in Huntingdonshire set just off the A1(M), about five miles southwest of the southern suburbs of Peterborough.

From time beyond memory Folksworth was relatively isolated and up until recently it was small and undeveloped; it had old cottages and some post-war development, and a rather handsome 16th Century house named "The Elms". Besides the parish church, St Helens it had for facilities just a village hall and a pub (The Fox). However, in recent years two new housing developments have been built on Folksworth's fields.

The parish consists of quite high farming country (high at least when compared to the fenland that swallows most of the north of the county.

Parish church

St Helen's Church

The parish church is St Helen's (Church of England). St Helen's was first built in AD 1150.

The church was restored in 1850 when the chancel was entirely rebuilt and the vestry added, the north wall of the nave largely rebuilt, and a bell-cote built on the west gable. Thus it may now be accounted a "Norman Victorian" church.

Washingley

The village is part of a civil parish named "Folksworth and Washingley" but there is no Washingley village today. The village was deserted and has vanished, leaving just Washingley Farm, a few cottages and the remains of a castle.

Of the castle, a mound remains which was once the motte. The layout of the estate may be tracesd on the ground, and there are woods marking out a square enclosure laid out when the village stood here.

Big Society

Village hall

'Folklore' magazine is delivered four times a year to each house in the parish.

Folksworth is more ambitious now more folk live there. It now has a new cricket wicket installed and has four goal posts on the playing ground; there are plans to get more in the field.
