Ellens is a small village in Surrey, in the south of the county, lying just a few hundred yards north of the Sussex border. A footpath and track lead out to the farmstead of Bury St Austen's on the Sussex side. The B2128 between Cranleigh and Rudgwick passes through Ellens Green, while Ellens is strung along the narrow local road.
It is a just little residential village, outside the woodlands which spreads out on each side beyond it, a mixture of humble cottages and plush houses.
The course of a Roman road runs past Ellens, which connected to Stane Street a little to the southeast.
Ellens Green
Ellens Green is a hamlet lying less than a mile from Ellens itself, on the junction with the main road, or what passes for a main road thereabouts. It began as a dependent hamlet but has grown to be the equal of Ellens itself, or though the two are slightly separated they form in truth one village.
