Elephant Lagoon

Elephant Lagoon is a small, almost enclosed sea-loch which lies on the south-east side of Cook Bay on the north coast of South Georgia. It is connected to Cook Bay by Carl Passage .
The lagoon was named 'Elephant Harbour' by the Shackleton-Rowett Antarctic Expedition after the elephant seal (Mirounga leonina), probably following the usage of sealers. It became 'Elephant Lagoon' following survey by Discovery Investigations in 1929.
