Elephant Cove indents the south coast of South Georgia to the south-east of Cape Demidov and north-east of Klutschak Cove, in the north-west of the island.
On early charts this bay has appeared as 'Staten Cove'. The name 'Elephant Bay' was adopted by sealers on the island after the elephant seal (Mirounga leonina). It was named 'Elephant Cove' following the South Georgia Survey of 1956-57.
