Dasaki or Dasaki Achnas is a village in the Eastern Sovereign Base Area of Akrotiri and Dhekelia. The population in 2011 was 2,087.
History
Achna (Άχνα) is today an abandoned village in the Famagusta District of Cyprus, in the Turkish-occupied part of the island, just north of the Buffer Zone. After the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974, Achina’s inhabitants fled to the Sovereign Base Area and built a new village.
The inhabitants of Achna built a provisional tent village in the Achna Forest (Δασάκι της Άχνας), just a hundred yards away from their old village, butt protected by being in British territory. They later started to build a new village, Dasaki Achnas, near the old location, within the confines of the Dhekelia Sovereign Base Area.[1]
Sports
Achna is known for its football club, Ethnikos Achna F.C., and the football stadium where it plays, Dakasi Stadium.
