Cwmgiedd is a hamlet in Brecknockshire strung along the valley of the little River Giedd, just before it empties itself into the River Tawe at Ystradgynlais.
Its road is a dead-end lane, running up the river from Ystradgynlais to turn into track up to the hills and the little Giedd Forest, which lies between the River Giedd and the Namt Cyw or Nant Ceiliog.
Sir John Thomas, appointed Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales in 2013, took the peerage title "Lord Thomas of Cwmgiedd" after his home village.
